Russia warned people to leave Mariupol, now it is too late

The illusion that Ukraine could win a war with Russia is why so many are now stuck in the Mariupol war zone. The people in the small port city had weeks to leave but did not heed the warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin. 60% of residents made up their minds to stay when the invasion began on February 24th, it was a fatal decision, their hopes have been dashed. Mariupol is in ruining, it has been completely razed to the ground, people are literally seeking any way out that they can find, but the bombing is too intense.

100,000 trapped in a 24-hour bombing

Russia is unleashing a bombing campaign beyond belief, the small city is being flattened to the ground, those who held out hope that Ukraine would win the battle and save the city were living under an illusion. It has become obvious that Russia is taking Mariupol by force.

Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, speaking on Ukrainian television on Tuesday, demanded the opening of a humanitarian corridor for civilians. She said at least 100,000 people wanted to leave Mariupol but could not.

"Our military are defending Mariupol heroically," Vereshchuk said, referring to Russia's earlier demand the city surrender by dawn on Monday.

Much of the blame should go on Ukrainian President Zelensky whose tough talk and lack of preparation caused undue pain on the citizens of Mariupol. For weeks the local officials did absolutely nothing, living life as normal while Putin repeated his pleas for the citizen to leave before the carnage began. Zelensky has no answers, he talks tough then pleads with America for money and weapons. It was clear he could not win a war with Russia, yet the Biden Administration and American media convinced Zelensky that he could win.  Zelensky is playing the role of beaten boxer still not giving up.

Stop the Carnage

Zelensky deserves much of the blame for the loss of life, this was not a sneak attack by the Russians, they announced it and gave more than enough time for people to leave. The people who remain are in a very precarious situation, one woman who did escape to Poland says her mother is stuck in Mariupol and regrets not leaving. Zelensky has no real war strategy, his plan is to keep saying “no surrender” while the country is destroyed, it is time for him to realize just saying no is not enough to win a war. Every boxer beaten to a pulp seems upset that the Ref stopped the fight, this is Zelensky; no surrender while his Mariupol citizens are destroyed.
