Azovstal Steel Plant disaster in Mariupol Ukraine shows Zelensky must resign

The disastrous Azovstal Mariupol steel plant incident yesterday, showed the world Ukrainian President Zelensky is unfit to lead Ukraine and must resign. The conflict between Russia and the Ukrainians reached a new height this week, as Russian troops unofficially claimed the city of Mariupol. It has been a brutal battle for the city, many innocent civilians lost their life in the conflict, but it did not have to be this way. The unnecessary hostage situation at the Mariupol Azovstal steel plant confirms that Zelensky is unfit to serve as President of Ukraine and should resign for the sake of his own people.

Far Right nationals

The Azov battalion is a controversial far right group that is an integral part of the Ukrainian military, about 20% of their members are admittedly Neo-Nazis, the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol is one of their strong holds. The steel plant is a fortress, it is difficult for enemt soldiers to attack because there are underground bunkers built into the structure along with bomb shelters. It is an underground world where Ukrainian nationalists were hiding out in Mariupol, the last group to surrender or to be captured. The Russian military has taken the city, but the Ukrainian nationalists still refuse to surrender the steel plant, there are also civilians who are still holed up in the plant without food or water. Russia has asked all those in the plant to surrender, be taken to safety, the Russians guaranteed that the Red Cross would be present to assure the safe evacuation of all civilians. Despite the lifesaving offer curiously not one civilian came out, making Russian claims that the civilians were actually hostages seem more credible.

The Azov Ukrainian battalion announced they would never surrender, the Russians would have to take them out “dead or alive”, yet there was no word about the civilians.  Ukrainian leader Zelensky praised the nationalists that refused to give up, he doubled down, telling them not to surrender, giving scant thought to the civilians inside. Russia had issued two deadlines for those holding out to surrender, the ultimatums passed with no sign of surrender. Russia then bombed the Azovstal steel plant into near non-existence and troops finally were allowed to enter, many civilians were ushered to safety.

Why didn’t Zelensky order an immediate release of all steel plant civilians from the time the steel plant was surrounded by Russian troops? Why did he commit to “no Mariupol surrender” even with Russians in control of 99% of the city? Zelensky once again caused needless civilian suffering, he is unfit to serve and should resign.

Azov Battalion radio message revealed their hopeless situation.

The Ukrainian nationals in the Azovstal plant radio signaled how desperate their situation truly was, after Russia dropped the massive bombing on the steel monstrosity. Deputy Commander of the Azov Regiment Svyatoslav Kalyna Palamar, comment to Radio Svoboda on Tuesday, saying the invaders were dropping heavy bombs on the plant.

“We will fight, we will use every cartridge we have left, but we call on the homeland to save civilians, the wounded and take away the bodies,” Palamar said.

He added that “there are a lot of people” under the rubble of the plant’s buildings.

With death near, finally a call was made to please get the innocent civilians out.

 Ukrainian President Zelensky must resign, he knew that helpless civilians had no way out, yet he applauded the far-right nationalists fighting to the last man. Were these civilians held as hostages? It is hard to believe civilians wanted to end their life in a steel plant when red cross and Russian soldiers were waiting to rescue them. Some civilians were rescued, all were led out by Russian soldiers who entered the plant. Zelensky is a hardheaded, arrogant man, the people of Ukraine will suffer with him as their leader. The war will only end when Russia claims all of Ukraine, this is a fact. How can we know this? The incident at the Mariupol Azovstal steel plant shows that Zelensky is a fatalist, he is willing to sacrifice the life of every Ukrainian civilian for his own reputation. Russia must seize all of Ukraine to save lives, the capital city Kyiv has to be run by the Kremlin or war will never end in the region., and civilians will suffer. Nothing but a complete Russian takeover of Ukraine will ever bring peace, no matter how much money America and NATO throw at Zelensky.
